What About Military Rates

What About Military Rates:

Depending on the location and provider, a military discount might sometimes be better than a rate that a travel agent can access. It's wonderful that you're prioritizing the best value for your client.

There are instances where military rates or direct bookings might provide a better deal for your client. If your client has access to military rates and those are more cost-effective, here are a few tips to ensure the booking process still benefits your travel business:

  1. Advise Your Client Professionally
If your client prefers to book directly using their military discount, you can still assist by:

    • Recommending hotels based on their preferences.
    • Providing insights on the best locations and amenities for their stay.
    • Offering support with other parts of their trip, such as transportation or activities.
  2. Negotiate with the Hotel
In some cases, you can contact the hotel directly and ask if they honor the military discount and allow you to book as their travel agent. Some hotels may let you secure the military rate while still earning a commission.

  3. Combine Military Discounts with Add-Ons
Even if the hotel doesn’t provide a commissionable military rate, you can add value to your services by booking extras for the client, such as excursions or transportation, which could be commissionable.

  4. Additional Resources
You could also check with brands that frequently offer military discounts (e.g., Hilton, Marriott, etc).  If going to directly to the hotel, we just want to make sure to confirm that RSI Vacations is partnered with the individual hotel or major brands.

Lastly, keep in mind that offering the best deal to your client helps build trust and loyalty, even if it means not earning commission on this specific booking. The trust you earn can lead to repeat business or referrals down the line.
